I'm considering swapping my -06 from my low-powered scope to irons. It doesn't have a front sight, and I'm looking at brazing on a banded front sight. I'm no stranger to brazing/soldering/welding, but I do have one question:

Will it change the barrel harmonics very much? It shoots very well, but I've got a minor concern that it might have a detrimental effect on the barrel harmonics and go from a sub-MOA rifle to a 2" rifle (though with the kind of shooting I do, it doesn't make THAT big of a deal). We're talking whitetails at less than 200 yards (usually much less). It sure would be nice if it didn't lose too much accuracy, though. Any input? Thanks in advance.

By just installing the a banded front site you just changed the vibration in which the barreled action is accustomed, thus changing P.O.A., yes that small amount of weight in turn has effected your original accuracy. To say how much ?

Now I believe the question was will brazing a site to the barrel effect accuracy? Well pending your paste rod or ribbon and its melting temp., can effect the overall performance. But with high strength modern solders - really taking your barrel to any where from 1100 to 1375 degrees is not necessary.

Rather than brazing on a band, had you considered drilling & tapping for a ramp? Brownells carries a wide variety of ramps and sights in different widths, heights, and styles (hood, no hood, fiber optic sights, gold bead....).
