Drop-Shot,
I posted the message above yours. It always surprises me that when I go to the range and pull the Hi-Point out, I get someone that asks what kind of gun it is, blah, blah, blah.
This past Sunday, one of the guys at the range had a H&K 9mm pistol. Forget the model, because I wasn't paying too much attention, but it was a high-dollar job, I think it was a cop version. Anyway he was a nice enough guy but kept reminding me about how great his gun was and how much he knew about guns and shooting and was basically a "can you top this" kind of guy. We had about 10 or 12 guns between us, everything from a 22 Beretta auto pistol to a AR and a Benelli M-1 auto shotgun. I had the Hi-Point in the back of the truck, it was laying in the case and there was a drop cloth covering part of it up. We had been shooting it and everything else, so I was loading some mags for it, and I pulled it out from under the cloth so I could shoot it again.
He sees it and asks what it was. Mine has a homemade camo paint scheme, light-green, light-grey, off-white and black. I tell him it's a Hi-Point. He proceeds to tell me how crappy Hi-Points are, but he didn't recognize it when I pulled it out. We were shooting bowling pins from 50 yards and broken clays and just generally plinking. So after I shoot the first 10 rounds, he asks if he could try it. So of course, I give him the gun and three loaded mags. After he shoots all three mags, he tells me he can't believe how accurate it was for a cheap gun and how everytime he pulled the trigger it went bang. I asked if he was expecting it to blow up in his face. He looked at me funny and said that he "heard" that Hi-Points were crap, but he never shot one and was going by word of mouth and gun reviews. We shot 300 rounds out of the Hi-Point. I only shot 40 rounds. Everyone else wanted to shoot the "crappy" gun.
His H&K. Jammed twice on him. I shot it and it worked fine for me. I also have a Charles Daly 12 gauge Field Tactical pump shotgun, which according to a lot of folks, is crap too. But, I've never had a problem with it. It goes bang when you pull the trigger and when you rack the slide, the next round chambers.
I'm still trying to figure all this "expert" advice out
Vin
