You will need the Weaver #1 side mount base in addition to the special rings for this gun. The bolt holes should be found along the left side of the receiver just along the wood, if you are lucky you will not have to shave any wood off the stock to fit the bases. If you are really unlucky, your gun will not be drilled and tapped for a scope as some early ones weren't. Then you will need further gunsmithing help which can run $100 or so. As far as I have been able to discover, the side mount is the only one possible with these models (it is actually a Savage gun with Stevens and sometimes Springfield markings) due to receiver design.

The base ends up at an angle not quite reaching to above the receiver and there is a different style of ring attachment used, very much different from standard rings. That is what I mean by "special rings" as they are not the norm. A look at the Weaver website should show the differences.

If you have Weaver bases, check with anyplace that sells Weaver products or online at MidwayUSA, Natchez Shooter's Supply, Cabela's, Brownells, etc., or, as a last resort, Weaver themselves. I just picked up a Williams Gunsight catalog and saw they also make a side mount for this model of Savage gun. Contact them if you have a Williams base.
