Is a person allowed to purchase a rifle in the state of Iowa after being cleared of mental illness?

I'm talking about psychosis and depression leading to suicide and were institutionalized but now have been cleared of the mentall illness can they buy a rifle or not in the state of Iowa?

That would probably need to be answered locally. Contact your District Attorney or court system for clarification.

Been a while since I filled one out, but I seem to remember the Federal form having the question, "Are you currently or have you ever been treated for a mental illness" or something like that. If that's correct, it's gonna be hard to get past.

"Are you currently or have you ever been treated for a mental illness" [WWB]
The Feds have a habit of NOT allowing creative interpretations of their questions..... I've seen the above quote on a number of occassions..... sometimes dealing with firearms.

Frankly, I wouldn't count on it. Regardless of what the letter of the law says, remember that 4 LEO's got murdered just a few months ago (Lakewood, Wa.) by a man with a history of mental illness. People aren't likely to be very forgiving for a while.

My younger brother had his background cleared.A possesion charge from the 60's that was a friends. You have to hire a lawyer and he will petition the court with a written request. The Judge does some background checks and decides weather he will clear it or not.
It cost my brother 400.00 dollars but he had a job lined up as an explosion's Tech for an oil company in Louisiana. The 400.00 was a bargain as when he works he makes that back in 1 hour.To espounge a record is a common occurance now days.
If you know a general lawyer ask him,If not alot of attorneys have a free consultation.Good Luck!Mike
