 It is a big field, there are good introductions in most loading books. I like Serria's drop tables best of the books I have.

Heller, Welcome to the site, first off.

Like stated earlier, most reloading manuals have something in them about Ballistics. Hornady devote 1 of it's 2 volume set to nothing but ballistics. There a number of different computer programs available also.

If you are looking for free, online ballistics info, I use the following:

http://www.hornady.com/ballistics/
http://www.exteriorballistics.com/
http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/calculations/calculations.html

HWD, btw Hornady's latest edition loading manual just refers to the web site for ballistics info.

Zerbe,

Here I was thinking I had the most up to date Hornady Book! I need to check on the date of my ''newest'' ones. It's a 2 volume set like my old ones.

Sorry if I misled anyone.

Zerbe, you were right as usual. My addition of the Hornady manual is the 6th. The 6th is a 2 vloume set that includes all kinds of charts for ballistics on handguns and rifles, at all kinds of ranges. I reckon paper is more expensive and more time consuming that the NET, huh?

Hello Sir,
You're an expert when it comes to drillings, and if i may, I would like to ask you a couple of questions.

i am looking at a couple of drillings and i am trying to understand the calibers of the riffles.
it seems like the 8mm mauser is a fine caliber and will take anything up to a boar.
8x57jr
however i cant seem to get much info on the 9.3x72
what is this type of caliber? what can it be used for?
i thought initially it was a bigger caliber for bigger game... but im not so sure and it seems that its 3x the cost of the mauser.

both drillings are about the same age/german and in good condition with 16g doubles over the top.

any information/advise you can send my way would be greatly appreciated.
thanks for your time.
cheers
james

FYI, the eskimo link for the JBM page hasn't worked in a while, here's the good url:

http://www.jbmballistics.com/calculations/calculations.shtml

enjoy!

I use the JBM calculations for my 1000 yard shooting, they seem to be pretty close to real world results.
