Howdy-

I'm looking for a lever gun, especially one chambered in 45LC. I plan on using this for barn yard short range work and just having some fun with a can on a fence post.
No, I'm not looking to shoot cloverleafs at 300 yards or anything like that. I don't shoot Cowboy action or any other competitive shooting.

My first choice of mind was a Winchester 94. But I've been looking at these Henry rifles. The actions seem tight but smooth, but I'm no expert. The trigger pull seemed a bit stiff and had some creep.

Now...
I'm sick of buying junk made by godless Chinese CommUNists, so the Henry, being American made, appeals to me. From what I've seen, they fit the bill of what I'm looking for.

What I'm asking is this....
At $800 for this rifle, is it REALLY worth it? I'm concerned about all that brass, which I assume is going to need polishing.
Looking at the wood, that's some of the plainest walnut I've seen on any gun, and I'm not sure about the finish.
So, I'm looking for feed back on these things.

Yeah or nay?

Thank you...

I really like my Rossi Puma in .45 LC . A lot of fun to shoot . :-)

I gave ~ $ 425 , out the door , a year or two ago .

They are not USA made , but in Brazil , I think ?

Or a Marlin . It is still made in USA .

God bless

Keep in mind, the Henry H009 with a blued steel receiver in 30-30 is often available on gun-broker for about $500, sometimes less.

Hi 2few... I'm not saying Henry is bad by any means. I like them. I like loading 45 Colt (esp. the higher pressure rounds...) for my Ruger 454 and I'd like to get a Golden Boy to compliment it. However, I think the Marlin is a stronger action overall. i.e. It will handle the 30-30, and the 444 Marlin like a Henry (with the 30-30), but it will also handle newer rounds like the 308, 338, and 450 Marlin that are higher pressure. They are all much higher in pressure than the 45 Colt. And Steel is definitely stronger than brass. But again - I think the Henry's are fine guns. Kind of pricy compared to a Marlin, but I'll still get one (it's on the list...).

It is disapointing to see the direction Marlin has gone in...or has been taken in.

The Marlin 1894 chambered for handgun calibers is not the same action as the Marlin chambered for .30-30 , .444 or .45-70 .

For handgun calibers , the M 1892 clones are probably stronger than the Marlin 1894's ? Such as the Rossi Pumas . I really like my .45 LC Rossi . :-)

But if you ever think you will want to scope it , get the marlin .

God bless
