I just joined this forum...finally. I kept failing that darned math test in the registration page :-)... Any who, I have some redundant questions about a new BPL and scope set up. I have tried to educate myself as much as possible prior to asking to not sound dumb. I have decided, hands down, on the Muzzle Loader I am getting. It will be the TC Omega. I've tried to research the difference in the Omega and find the differnce in the standard Omega vs. the Z5. From what I gather, the Z5 "Weather Shield" is not the same as the Stainless Steel version of the Omega? Which is why it stands to reason the difference in the pricing? Thoughts?

Additionally, I'm trying to educate myself on the proper scope. I know about fixed vs. zoom scopes. My question is will a standard Hi-powered rifle scope work on a ML rifle? How about shotgun specific scopes? Will they work? Manufacturers put labels on scopes such as muzzle loader or shotgun specific; is this to promote products to make guys like me (in the dark) want to buy "that" scope for an intended purpose? I've read and heard horror stories about scopes on BP rifles and they are all different.

This seems to be a great source of knowledge and experience... which is why I came aboard.

Thanks in advance for any input. Sorry for the redundant questions.

Ya can't hardly go wrong with the TC. I know plenty of guys who have 'em and love 'em. Don't get too wound up about using the magnum load in it. Most of us have found that the standard 100gr load works just fine and is usually a litle more accurate.

As for the scope, most guys and gals, that I know personally, are using standard rifle scopes on them. Most are 3x9, with the occassional 2x7 in the mix. I think, but may be wrong, that the scopes marked as shotgun scopes were set up with a differrent parralex than standard scopes. This has something to do with focus and all that, but I can't and won't try to explain it. My personal ML wears a 4x compact rifle scope. It's donig just fine and hasn't come apart for about 4 yrs now. Before that it was mounted on top of a 7MM Ultramag, so it must be kinda tough.

Hope this has helped some.

OH YEAH!!! Welcome Aboard!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply HWD. I'm trying to get as educated as I can so I can make a smart investment. I don't want to be back and forth with "crap" equipment and returns to vendors.

SW VA? Your out there in racing country?

Yeah. About like you are in NC. How's things over next to the ocean? Dang, but I need to get my feet back in some salt water for a while.

When ya buy this or any other BP rifle, make sure to get yourself a quality BP cleaning kit too. Cleanups are a bit different with BP from smokeless. With mine, I have to clean it about every 3-4 shots.
Some rifles prefer certain powder/bullet combinations. Be ready to try different ones(read that as a lot of range time). Some rifle want bullets with sabots, some prefer the powerbelt style.
If nothing else, trying to find the right combo will get familiar with your rifle.

Have fun with this!

I have done alot of reading on the bullet and powder issues. Just about every person recommends the same load combination for the TC Omega; I'm going with that.

I know that I'm a little late on the response for this, but I have a TC Omega that I'm very happy with. It's currenty wearing a 30yr old Tasco fixed 4x "wideview" scope that spent most of its life on top of a 6mm rem.

I usually shoot 110gr of 777, partly because it shoots well in my gun and it pretty much fills my "quick loads."

You won't regret picking this gun.
