does anyone else have a remington 597 magazine and think its a total piece of sh!t? It had been workin fine till i took it out 2 days ago to do some squirrel hunting and plinking and It wouldnt feed w/ 10 rounds finally i got it to work w/ 5 rounds and then it just stopped feeding altogether I took it apart 3 times and cleaned it I was so disgusted I contemplated sending remington one of the magazines from my 10/22 w/ a letter telling them to study it and take notes Im thinkin about gettin rid of the gun now and buyin another .22 which will be a ruger nothing works better than that rotary mag I dont know why alot of other manufactuers dont use them.

the gun is fine, the magazine just isn't very good. i have two magazines - one works just fine and the other jams after every single shot.

remington put out some new improved magazines for the 597. if i'm not mistaken, they can be identified by a small circle on the bottom of the mag. these mags are supposed to be 100% reliable, but i don't have any of them, so i couldn't say for sure. i need to get a couple, because i've got one mag that won't feed if i put more then two shots in it, and another that only works half the time.

the mags have made a lot of people weary of the 597, and it's too bad because the 597 is an excellent rifle...

One of the realities of clip type magazines is that you MUST find the ammo that it digests, and stick with that ammo. It may be many kinds, or it may be just a few...this is the nature of clip fed firearms. :?
