I've got an old TC Contender. It's one of the first one's made. Doesn't interchange with the newer barrels.

So, I've been considering an Encore. Haven't talked to anyone who has one.

So, I'd appreciate it of some of you Encore owners would chime in an give me a little critique.

Thanks.

I don't care what anyone says( I have seen some doubters here) the Encore is a first rate rifle. Mine in 7mm mag shoots like a dream, with a very light trigger and my leupold I can shoot 1/2 '' groups at 100 yards.....

What retirement fund?! I figure life is short so live it to the max. Heck, give me half a chance and I'll eat my dessert first every time! HAHA

It's pretty cool to have a wife that likes to shoot. We go to the range together often. She's one heck of a shot with a pistol or rifle. She'll shoot trap but doesn't like skeet much.

When I met my wife, she was a real Jane Fonda. Hated guns; or at least was afraid of them. Then we went camping and I brought along a Marlin Model 39A with a peep sight on it.

Tossed out a coke can and took a few shots. Asked her if she wanted to shoot. She reneged; then not wanting to be a spoil sport she went ahead and took a shot. Well, I lost the use of that gun! She's a great shot! Then she took up trap shooting, with my Charles Daly over and under. Lost the use of that gun too.

Now we just love to walk throught the woods plinking. She's still using that Marlin, but we have some nice old Remington bolt actions guns (model 34's) that she likes too.

I've always found that if women gives it a real try that they make great shots. Kids do too. Great vision and steady hands.

Are Encores worth the change? They are pretty "spendy" as we say in Central Oregon.

I say yes......What other gun can you buy different barrels for that doesnt cost you a arm and a leg. As for a single barrel , I will say they do not have the strongest action(like a ruger # 1)but its srtong enough. It will last a lifetime of hunting.......

Logjam,

Consider this, buy one rifle barrel and action for around $550. Buy any number of other barrels for between $225 and $275. Just change the barrel and you have a different caliber, but the same action and trigger that you are already used to. Change out the stock for a set of grips, put on a shorter barrel and forearm and you've got one very accurate pistol. Grips run around $25 and the barrels are around $225. Still the same trigger that you are used to. VERSYTILE,MAN!!!

Why won't it interchange with the G2? Other than the new 45x209 barrel what barrels can't you use?

Grimel,

When they started making the Encore, they beefed up the frame. Barrels for the Contender will not fit the Encore.I'm not to sure about the G2. The Encore was made to handle higher pressure loads than the original.

HWD,

I know that, Encores have nothing to do with Contenders. All the old barrels work on the G2. All the new barrels (sans the muzzleloader barrel) work on the first models.

I just talked with someone from TC. If you have a Contender or G2,you cannot use any Encore barrles for it. The G2 has a new style grip that doesn't interchange with the old Contender, but the forearms will interchange.

All parts that are for the Encore fit only the Encore. I asked if they were making any barrels in the short mags or ultra mags(not that I want one,but figured I'd ask for future references). The lady informed me that with the pressures that these rounds generate, they probably would not be making any.

Hope this helps...

I know what you mean.

I have one of the first Contenders made. SS# is something like 2500. When I bought it (paid $130) I also bought a 45 long/.410 barrell, and a 22 long rifle barrell.

Then years later I bought 22. Hornet barrell. They didn't interchange. I had to get some adapters to switch the barrells. What a pain.

I am a big TC Encore fan. I think they are worth every penny.
I have two encore frames and the following barrels:
.243 (tack driver) (my daughters deer rifle)
.454 Casuall 20" barrel made by Virgin Valley Custom
.45 x 209 muzzle loader
12 ga Turkey barrel

Fun to shoot, accurate and versitle. Whats not to like?

Take care...
