To the late-comers on this thread.....

In the early days of this forum, there was "watchdog" software that would delete or substitute for "naughty" words. Since the word "assume" was fairly common in responses to a question, and contained the naughty string of letters "a,s,s" it would always be deleted or substituted, causing some pretty strange grammar.
