Friends of mine I have a question,When we move back to Montana I promises to buy my son his first rifle, left handed. He is 6 feet tall and pretty stout,I want to start him out with his own gun, what caliber though?I chose the 30/06 but gwp is right on about the 270,and I want this to be his choice, not mine.I would lean toward the 270 cause I will always not be too far.So if any of my friends here would like to give an observation I would sure appreciate it. I feel the 243 is best left in the hands of experience. Drop-Shot

Drop shot

If you stick with Rem,you can get 243,308,270,30-06 or one of the ultra mags. Savage has about the most extensive Lh bolt collection out there. You may even look at the TC encore.Single shots work better to teach shot placement.

My 2 cents, drop, as a lefty shooter my self, is to get him TWO rifles! :D
THe above listed calibers are indeed good ones. If he's stout, he might well like a 7 mag. Powerful enough for elk, light enough to take a deer as well. Just a thought. I personally like the ol '06 as an all around, but the 7 mag isn't a bad choice either.

And yay on the SAVAGE, great lefty rifles.

txvashooter he has asked questions about the 30/06 and since I already have dies we could work up a load together that shoots well. HWD that is alot of choices,I thought about a 270 win,the one I had I don't know why I got rid of it,it killed every thing I shot with it.He is a stout young man and could handle most any cartdrige.I would like him to choose the 30/06 so I would not have to buy new dies but if he choses a 270 I just might have to get one and load for 2 instead of just 1.Thats a perfect reason to buy a CDL in 270.Yea thats the ticket!Drop-Shot
