I've been lurking here for a few weeks. This site, like Shotgunworld, seems to have some of the more insightful shooters in the world. I'm hoping someone could help with a rifle I recently won at a sporting clays event. It's a Marlin 989 M2 .22. It's brand new in the box and has never had a single shell through it. The information on this gun is very limited. I'm hoping that someone can tell me about this thing. Thanks for your help! -Mike-
I checked out Marlin's website(www.marlinfirearms.com) and found that the only thing that came near to this was a 917 m2. It seems that the "M2" is their designation for the Mach 2 (22LR necked down to 17 cal.). Recheck your model number to be certain. If all else fails, call Marlin direct. HWD
Thank you. It's nice to be here. I've really enjoyed this site. I was able to look this gun up in a blue book and it indicates that this gun, NIB, is worth between $90-$175. That's about all they say. I'm just wondering if I should keep it or trade it for a nice 10/22.
