Can anyone tell me the proper size tap to use to chase the scope mounting threads on a Remington 700 ML?

    Thanks...

    It is a 6-48.
It is unlikely that you will find one at the local hardware or auto parts store. This pitch is used almost exclusively for firearms. Order one and a tap wrench from Brownells or Midway.

I hope you like your 700 ML. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.

Thanks Mule... I love my 700 .30/06 and have heard great things about the ML. Saw 16 deer - 8 bucks - from Sunday night thru Mon morning at my hunting camp and am ready to get this thing sighted in!!... The gun was a gift and purchased mail order and one of the keepers in the scope mounts wasn't just right. I want to run a tap in it just to make dang sure before mounting the scope.
