I've been thinking about a new rifle! :D At first, the savage striker seemed pretty good, but alas, it doesn't feel right in my hand. I've got a NEF in a .223 that my wife shoots, but I'm wondering if y'all have any experience with the bigger calibers. Thinking about getting it to do a little hunting, etc. My other one, the 223, is a tack driver. Experience says the rifle ought to be ok but wanted feed back from y'all if you've shot them. Give a shout. i'm looking for a .30 cal, possibly, or maybe the .280 or the 7mm-08, just to be a little different. I like the notion I could get a few diff barrels.

Barrels! I have never known anyone to sell extra NEF OR HR barrels...
That's because the barrels have to be fitted to the receiver.

With Thompson, they're probably made to slightly tighter tolerances so barrels can mate to different receivers.

Depending on whose price you want to pay,You can pick up a new Blue/syn or blue/wood encore for around $500.When you step up to the stainless stuff,it goes up $50-$100. Choices are wide open on calibers and barrel lengths.Remove the stock, install pistol grip and one of many shorter barrels and you've got a very accurate hand cannon.Extra barrels for rifle cost around $250 and I'm not real sure on the pistol barrels.

Hey 8,
I think I've made up my mind on the Encore. I found a place that'll order me a 25-06 26" synthetic forless than $500. I'll probaly put a 4-12 leupold on top. This is the ultimate gun to me for my neck of the woods. Small enough for whistlepigs but big enough and with enough reach for any deer around here.

I found this topic real late so maybe no one will see this. However, the NEF rifles are great guns. I have three of them. I have ordered extra barrels from H&R and had them fitted to my receivers on two of them. They shot great.

I have a 7x57 with an additional 280 Rem barrel. Great!
I have a 270 Win with an additional 22-250 barrel...great
I have a 500 S&W Mag. and it shoots great.

I have taken deer with the 270 and 280...just great little guns.

8point,

This was an older post. Since then this one has gone down the road. Turns out it wasn't what I thought it'd be. I wasn't real happy with it's performance.

I've shot the Handi Rifles and like them,I think. I'd need some extended time with one to make up my mind.

As I've stated before, there's lemons in every field, whether you're talking about cars or guns. I reckon I got the citrus product this time. The conccept of the switch barrel rifle or handgun is great. TC seems to have addressed a lot of things that others found wanting with the Encore. Triggers are supposed to have been improved and that "Swing Hammer" should have been thought up years ago. Stock designs have changed a bit also.

I will say this, while I was in Idaho last year, I shot my son's Encore chambered for 204. Man what a blast! That thing was scary accurate and his 270 barrel wasn't no sloutch. Would I shoot another one? Yeah. Would I buy another one? I doubt it, but time will tell.
