I bought one of the first Weatherby Mark XXII's made. It's a Belgium gun, no forearm cap. Has a single shot lever, so that it opens after each shot and doesn't close. You push the lever forward to chamber the next round.
Came with two magazines; a five and 10 rounder. Has a steel butt plate. Fihish is old Weatherby black shiny blue. It has an adjustable trigger, but it is creepy. Has a thumb safety on the wrist.
The gun feels nice, it's man sized. It shoot okay, but it's not a target rifle.
I also have the original Weatherby scope but the cross hairs have broken and I've removed it and attached another.
Wood is a dark, honey colored golden brown. Nice straight grain. Mine has a pretty good ding in it that it got from laying next to a dune buggys hand brake.
Some where made with tubular magazines. The later ones were Jap, and they feel beefier.
I don't think they made THAT many of them. They were always expensive. I paid $125 for mine, with the scope attached in 1966. At the time it was the most expensive .22 around.
Keep your gun and shoot it. They are pretty simple to field strip btw; so it's not hard to clean, but it must be done from the muzzle. The bolt comes out easily.
Enjoy your gun.
