Always wanted an AR-15, and have some money for another gun. My dilema now is what to get ? I'd really like to stick with Colt, but don't know if I can keep it under $1000. My biggest problem is that my gun wish list is way too long

You might can squeak into a Colt for that price but not without some good grease, at least not around here (Tx). Now, if you have a buddy that can buy wholesale you might find one. Look at Buhsmaster and Rock River. Most of mine are Bushmasters but I have Armalites and Colts also. For the money I can't see beating Bushmaster, they are solid, accurate and easy to work with. I just recently picked up a Rock River Heavy fluted upper and put it on a Bushmaster Lower, it shoots great. One thing about Colt (if my memory serves me) is the take down pins are the smaller Diameter so you can't change uppers and lowers as easily as you can with the other brands. Also, Just my opinion, Colts aren't worth the extra money but again MY OPINION ONLY. I have kept the Colts because they are Colts but they don't perform any better than the others that cost less. I also have a couple of DPMS rifles and they cost more than Bushy but I had these put together locally at a DPMS dealer. I got some help on the prices but it is because I spent alot at one time.

You will be able to find a used Colt for under $1000, but most likely nothing new. What type of AR are you looking for? You most likely will be able to a Rock River Arms, which are great rifles, for under a grand. But i understand wanting to get a Colt. When I was looking for my first AR it also had to be a Colt...but you pay for the pony. Check out the gun shows in your area and you can generally bargian them down.
Good Luck

With out a doubt you can find a "as new" Colt for under $1000. Only thing will be if you want a flash hider and bayo lug it may be harder to find. I saw a couple of them at the last show at the KS collosiem that was postban config.( 20" no bayo or flashhider) for around $800 that could have past for new.

I would not recommend buying a Colt AR15 because Colt has altered the design to keep people from converting it to full auto or installing full auto parts that the rifle is almost a Jonah since the lower receiver is a piece of crap.

I would recommend buying a Colt for the upper and scrapping the lower receiver as junk and buying another and rebuilding it.
