At a local gun shop there is a model 70 winchester with what is the most beutiful walnut stock I have ever seen. It has Leupold 1 piece mounts and rings. My only complaint is that it's not a controlled round feed model. Oh yeah , its a used gun but looks brand new. The gun is only $375 I thought that was extremely cheap. But the woman said they couldn't get rid of it because it was a .338 and for some reason no one wants it.

I been shooting a friends .375 H&H Mauser and the recoil hasn't been bothering me and I was wanting to get a gun to hunt black bear. I'd rather have a .375 and use it to go after moose in a couple of years after I save my pennies ,but this is a great deal and it is a beutiful rifle.

Do you guys and gals think I should get the .338 or wait and try to find a .375?

I can't see why you couldn't hunt Moose with a .338... DP,you would know more about this.They hunt these things over seas with 6.5x55 swtish mousers, so that caliber should have plenty of punch to down a moose.

Not that I've ever hunted moose,but the guys I know who have been there done that,have used rifles from .270 on up. Most have stuck with the .338 because of its versatility. Coast to Coast this one caliber can do it all. Go for it!!

Thanks for the responses. I decided I'd get the .338 and went to the gun shop and it was gone . I guess I should have acted quicker. I can't believe I passed that up! I guess somebody did want a .338.

That's the way it goes ,Bud. Unfortunately,we're all blessed with 20-20 HINDSIGHT! Better luck next time. Some times it pays to go with your gut feeling.

I've never drawn a moose tag but in montana the friends I hunt with and worked with used 30/06,280.7mm mag,300 win mag.338 win mag,I don't even know any body that uses anything bigger(now I know luv2).I just read the newest shooting times and they talk about the 375 H&H and use 210 gr,225 gr,250 gr and 300 gr for every thing he hunts.I just bought a 338 win mag and right now thats all I can get till I find money on the side of the road,or drops from the sky(It could happen)Drop-Shot
