My most accurate rifle out of the box is a Weatherby SBGM in .270 wby (not sure if u consider Weatherby "out of the box" though). It shot 2.25 inch groups at 200 yds, After some tuning by master gunsmith Dave Tooley it now shoots 1.25 inch groups at 200!!!! A REALLY SWEET rifle!!!!!!!!

A plain, ordinary Rem. 700 ADL synthetic, in .308. After adjusting the trigger, mounting my scope and zeroing - this rifle has produced 5 / 8" groups. The amazing thing is, those groups were attained with ordinary Rem. Express Core-lokt softpoints (150 gr.) ! In fact, the rifle is capable of better performance than I am, most of the time. I paid $400.00 for the rifle.... and the ammo is about $12.00 per box. I would not have believed it - before it happened.

Remington 788 in .222 Rem. Another one, and a strange one is an 1895 Savage in .303 Savage. Amazingly accurate with open sights. Shots just about MOA a 100 yards. It shoot better than I can see.

Another surprizing one is a Schmidt Ruben model 1911. Extremely accurate, and it's a nice round too. When I bought mine you could still get Lee Loaders in the SR caliber so I reload. It's about like a .308.

My most accurage pistol is a Rugar MK II with the four inch barrel. It's more accurage than my MK I bull barrel. Browning High Power is accurage too.

One of the most accurage pistols I ever had was a Navy Arms replica of a Remington New Army .44. It was amazingly accurage; then some jerk stole it from me.

My most accurate rifle is a marlin 336ER in 356 win. at a 100 yards the groups usually run under an inch with my reloads.Thats not bad for a leveraction thats over 20 years old..
256 Win? Isn't that that little 357 round necked down to 25 cal? Not known for it's accuracy. Sounds like you have a good one.

I don't have a 256 win I have a {356 win} In a marlin 336ER .Winchester made them from 1980 to 1983 and marlin only made around 2,400 of them. The 356 win is more or less a rimmed 358 win. with the bullet seated deeper to reduce the overall length. The 356 is slightly below the ballistics of the 358.the 356 and 307 have thicker case walls than the 358 or 308 win.. DD444

DD444 I didn't take it like that.I have a 358 win and would like to work up a accurate load but I haven't as of yet.My brother in law has a 348 in a browning BLR and all he has is aperture sights on it and has killed every thing he shot with it.He took a buffalo last year with it,shot the brute right behind the ear and the buffalo hit the ground.I think he took a deer (muley) with that gun.We saw pictures of a fine 3X4 hanging.I would like to accumulate more of the calibers that are hard to find.I looked up the 356 and it looks like it will bring home the bacon, where in Mississippi do you live,I was born and lived along time in Brookhaven and wiggins area.Good luck with it.Drop-Shot

DD444 I used to haul pulpwood out of lewiston I think it was called,I was 14 and could lift and throw most any size wood on the truck back then, early to mid 60's.I was born in Tylertown in an old country hospital and my middle name was to be michael but the old country nurse could not spell it so she spelled it as Mikell,it sounded ok to her but I went through school with problems cause the teachers thought I didn't know how to spell.Hows your weather over there? seen any decent deer?Drop-Shot
